Oh Shepherd, My Shepherd

A poem of loss

Oh shepherd, my shepherd

I am in green pastures

my heart is full but my eyes wander

Oh shepherd, my shepherd

where have you gone

my eyes no longer see you

the terrain is rocky and the river is strong

I no longer see my shepherd

Oh shepherd, my shepherd

my young is in danger

the river has overtaken him

I am pulled under

The rapids have taken me

Oh shepherd, my shepherd

why have you left me

you were not there to keep us safe in your arms

Oh shepherd, my shepherd

has pulled me from the depths but not my young

my heart is broken my body is bruised

my shepherd carries me back to the green pastures

Oh shepherd, my shepherd

my heart longs for him my mind is not my own

you rescued me and keep me safe when you are in my eyes

I shall keep you in my sight for the rest of my days
