Prayer Starters
I love back to school time. Maybe it’s because I am a teacher by trade or just one of those strange people who love to learn new things. I’ve been called a lifelong student. Sadly, student loans have a hold over me, so no more degrees here.
But seriously. A new school year is such an exciting time. They are full of new opportunities, learning, books, friends, and challenges. Many of us have children, know a child, or can remember the butterflies in our stomach as we were preparing for the start of a new year. No matter how delighted we were to get the latest Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper with coordinating folders, we were a ball of nerves.
As a teacher, I get a little anxious too. Even now teaching at the college level. I wonder about my students, if they will like my class, what to wear… so yeah, some things never change.
I attempt to pray specifically for each school year. Every year is different with special needs or just general prayers being slightly different the older the children are.
It is important to me and my family to begin each day praying before we drop off. Last year and this year look very different. We have had a hard time adjusting this year. And to top it off, next year our son will be driving. (Put in an extra prayer for me please!)
Here are some of my general prayer starters for back to school:
- Lord, thank you for this new year and the new opportunity to learn and grow. Bless this new year and the teachers and students interacting with _______. I pray that you surround ______ with encouraging teachers and classmates. Bless their hard work and new opportunities this year.
- Dear Heavenly Father, please be with _____, their class and generation. Guide them and draw them to you this year. Help lead them to grow and live for you. Help them lean on you and lead this generation to serve others and to be a shining light to others.
- Lord, I pray for your protection over ________ and their classmates. I ask that you protect them physically, emotionally, and mentally. I pray that you guard their hearts and minds against spiritual attacks and worldly views. Help them put their hope and strength in you, not things of this world.
- Thank you Lord, for our teachers. Thank you for being willing to give their time and expertise to guide and direct our children. I pray that You give them the strength to be sustained in You. Give them the energy, discernment, and rest in you throughout the school year. Help them find fulfillment. Help them to possess the characteristics their students need this year. Protect them, guide them, and direct them each day.
- Dear Lord, thank you for today. Thank you for the opportunities to learn and grow. Please be with _______ today. Watch over ____, their teachers, and classmates. Give them wisdom, discernment, and a passion for you. I pray that ____ is a Godly example for someone today.
I would love for you to share your prayer starters too. Let us know when and how you pray for a new school year. XOXO- Ashley
