Today I choose to be thankful.
Gratitude is not always innate, sometimes is a choice. A hard choice.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
God has not asked us to be thankful when things are perfect, but in everything.
Today, I am thankful God redirected my life when I thought I had it all together.
I’m grateful for every unexpected twist and speed bump my career has taken. If my plan had worked out, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m especially thankful that God never quit redirecting me, even when I was stubborn snd determined to do it my way.
I am thankful for the 12 eventful years with Jordan. I loved seeing him grow with his little personality, smirk, and side eyes. He taught me so much as a parent and educator. I miss him everyday.
I am thankful for my 22 years with Josey, literally half my life has been with him. I knew he was for me almost immediately. He was not just my husband but my best friend for so long. He taught me what true love was, he brought excitement and passion into everyday task, and attempted to help me to slow down and be present. 20 year old me had no idea what life would hold, but I am thankful for each year, moment, every second.
I am so thankful for Jaden. He made me a mother, taught me what unconditional love is, patience, and selflessness. My parents are saints. They not only introduced me to Christ but are there for me unconditionally.
I’m thankful for my extended family, amazing cousin, beautiful sister in law, friends that I consider family. My church that has been beyond supportive and are a true representation of what God asked the church to be, our pastor who speaks truth and lives it out daily, even on the hard days. My school family, God knew exactly what he was doing when he put me at CHS. Even my neighborhood and community.
So today, on a very imperfect day, a hard day, I choose to me thankful.
Gratitude isn’t faking “happy”, it’s knowing that God is for you, He is the same every day. He will sustain you, walk beside you, and carry you. (Deu 1:31)
