Thy Will be Done

We say that as a prayer, but do we really mean it?

Honestly, if God had told me about my son’s accident before it happened, I would have done everything I could to stop it. I would not have said, “Thy will be done.”

We have to remember that we are here to glorify God. Not to list out our desires for God to check off. Isaiah 43:7 “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” and John 17:4 “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.” We are not here to live the American dream. We are here to glorify God with our worship, service, prayer, and actions.

People often say, “God is the Lord of my life.” If he is, we would be praying for God’s will to be done and mean it.

Make no mistake. I struggle with this. I love a to-do list and a plan. I want to plan my life the way I want it to go. But I also must remember that my plan may not be God’s.

Often time we want our life to go smoothly and not detour. We want to go from point A to point B with no speed bumps, no traffic, and defiantly no detours. But often times those speed bumps, traffic, and detours are the things God uses in our lives to mold us into who he designed us to be. When we struggle through life’s challenges and temptations, we have a choice. Will we glorify God in the storm, or will we turn away?

I have a few big decisions coming up in my life. And for the first time, I honestly want God’s will to be done. I want God to open the doors he wants and shut the doors that need to be shut. Again, is it hard? Boy, you better believe it. Do I want to try and take control of the situation? Oh yes. Will I probably fail in this same area next month, maybe? That is why he gave us renewed mercies every morning.

β€œThe steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

I encourage you to renew your faith and strength in Him each morning. Ask him to give you the trust and direction to put your whole hearted faith in his plan for your life. Ask, and you shall receive. If you ask for his renewal and faith each morning, it will give it. Amen

  2. This isn’t my story but so many times I have thought this. It is so hard to let go of the ‘control’. I struggle with that all the time. You are loved.
